Tales of the Bird's Head
Dive Raja Empat & Explore the Bird’s Head Peninsula

The cruise ‘Tales of the Bird’s Head’ combines the well-known central and northern parts of Raja Empat with the much less known northern parts of Waigeo, one of the four kings that make up Raja Empat and the Bird’s Head Peninsula.

Upon leaving Sorong harbor, we will head towards the Dampier Strait, at the heart of Raja Empat. We will spend 2-3 days diving the seamounts and riffs of the Dampier Strait prior to turning north towards Gam, Aljuy Bay, Wayag and Waigeo. The diving here is characterized by mesmerizing coral reefs alive with reef fish, while innumerable islands and rocks make for unforgettable surface scenery. Most of these waters form part of Marine Protected Areas, and, while the area is vast, and divers are far in between, they have been explored quite well to date.

Turning East along the North Coast of Waigeo, and then on towards the Bird’s head Peninsula, we will sail in much less well known waters. We will spend 2-3 days exploring the underwater world prior to pulling into Manokwari Bay.

Nowadays both Sorong and Manokwari are well connected to the rest of Indonesia, and it is possible to connect to/from Sorong via Jakarta, Makassar, Ambon or Manado, and to/from Manokwari via Jakarta, Makassar or Ambon.
