Passage through Paradise
Explore Cenderawasih Bay National Park and Dive with Whalesharks

Due to its remoteness, Papua’s Cenderawasih Bay is arguably one of the last places left on this planet for recreational divers to explore. Our cruise ‘Passage through Paradise’ crosses the bay, taking in Cenderawasih Bay National Park as well as the newly discovered whaleshark spots in the South of the bay near the town of Nabire.

Heading south from Manokwari, we spend the first part of the cruise exploring the Cenderawasih Bay National Park. Within its boundaries, all five types of coral reefs, a high degree of biodiversity, as well as several endemic species await us.

Moving on towards Nabire, we will stop to dive a rather unlikely spot: a series of wooden platforms with fishing nets underneath. While these platforms are a common sight across Indonesia, the ones here are unique, as they attract whalesharks from the bay! The whalesharks have discovered the platforms as a source of a free meal, kindly provided by the local fishermen, and tend to stay around for very long periods of time, as long as food does not run out.

We will also dive some of the adjacent reefs on the islands in this area, prior to pulling in to Nabire for disembarkation.
