Big Fish Country
Across the Flores Sea
This special 9-Night cruise takes us from Maumere on the north coast of Flores, through Taka Bone Rate, the world’s third largest atoll, to the southern shores of Sulawesi. Our cruise area boasts of lots of big pelagic fish, as well as some fine walls.
Immediately upon departing from Maumere, the steep walls and slopes with lush hard and soft coral coverage of the islands in the Maumere Bay await you. We’ll stay overnight right in front of the islands and spend a second day diving these rich waters before embarking on our overnight journey north towards Taka Bone Rate. The islands forming this massive atoll emerge from thousands of meters of depth and line the caldera of an ancient huge volcano that has since submerged. The outer fringe of the atoll is characterized by steep walls dropping into infinity, making for superb drift dives alive with fish.
Upon exploring Taka Bone Rate, we will continue north towards the long coastlines of the island of Selayar. Here again, expect step walls and lots of big fish, with sharks in particular being extremely common. We will finish the cruise by diving the current-swept channels immediately south of Tanjung Bira.
Maumere, our port of departure, is within easy reach from Bali. Upon arrival in Bira, most travelers choose to continue overland to Makassar (approx. 4-5 hours) to catch their flight back to Bali, Jakarta, Ambon or Sorong.
